Mac(k) Daddy

I now have a macbook and I guess I am blogging about it cause it's fun to try doing things I'm used to doing on a PC.

Turns out this experience is pretty much the same. In that case, I'll sign off until I find something useful to say.

I've been jonesing for a MacBook Pro for a long time now. *sigh* Maybe this fall.

What made you decide to get a MacBook?

While on holidays, the friends we visited all had macs of various kinds. I got to play around on them and came to love a lot of things about them : the design, attention to detail, simplicity, etc.

My laptop was dying and I needed a replacement so with my recent experiences with macs on the front burner in my mind, I felt it was an obvious choice.

There are more reasons of course: OS Stability, there is not petter choice of system than mac for running the audio software I would like to get in the future, they are reliable, and of course, the cool factor.

Now that I've had it for a few days, I know I have made the right choice. I love the way the finder searches. It is sooo fast. I had to sit and wait with my Windows machine. And as far as laptops go, this one runs fairly cool. The fan rarely comes on.

Oh, and then there's Vista. I've worked on a few machines with Vista and really don't like it.

There are 'not so cool' things like Mac's can't write to NTFS partitions - they can only read them - so networking is a little more tricky. I have to format my portable drives in FAT32. Importing my email from Outlook to Mac mail was quite a process. It worked but with a lot of tinkering. I do have Mac Office 2004 and find Word and Excel better to use than on a PC. PowerPoint looks better run from a Mac than a PC but they are really not compatible with each other. I was super disappointed with that. I do a lot of PowerPoint as a worship leader.

I choose a MacBook over a MacBook Pro for cost. It was hard to justify (the church purchased it). And, I was ready for a more compact laptop (13.3" vs 15" or 17").

I'll never be without a PC though. Maybe someday our main system at home will be a Mac but I'll never be without a PC.

And if I am really honest, I got a MacBook for the 'cool' factor.
